Summer Learning Journey Week 4 Day 5

11/1/2018
Day 5: Looking into the Future

Activity 1: Your Future Self
It may be hard to imagine, but one day you will graduate from high school and it
will be time to decide what to do next. You may want to study at university, become an
apprentice, go to training college, travel, or start working. There are so many options!

Take a minute to think about your future. What would you like to do when you finish school?
Would you like to work in a specific job? Would you like to study at university?
What would you study? Maybe you’d even like to move overseas. Share your thoughts
and ideas on your blog site. There are no wrong answers!

My Future
In the future I want to go to university to study law or pacific studies
when I am older I would also want to travel the world. It would also allow me to explore the
opportunities  form the world that could possible branch into a courier for my future.
If I were to move overseas I would love to move to Australia where some of my closest
friends and family live so I could spend more time with them.  I would also like to have a
part time job to support myself and have extra money to treat myself once in a while from
all the hard studying I would be doing trying to become a lawyer. If I don’t want to become
a lawyer when I am older I would like to own my own bakery so I could use my passion
for baking to make people happy, and it would also be really fun to come up with different
flavors/ kinds of pastries or desserts that know one has ever heard of in there lifetime.

Activity 2: Flying Cars
Let’s imagine that you’ve just learned to drive, and your family has
decided to buy you a brand new car. You are allowed to choose from any of the following
designs:

hummer.png
flying car (2).jpg
Red-Cadillac-750x443.jpg

On your blog please tell us which of the three cars you would choose and why.
I would love to drive the flying car because it would so exciting and a blast flying
through the streets like the bat mobile. Also it is much quicker to get to places especially
if your running late or in a rush, it looks super cool and is different from all the other cars.
I didn’t choose the black car because it looks like any other car on the street and it’s not
really interesting, I didn’t choose the red car because I don’t like how low it is and it wouldn’t
be strong enough to take on road trips along bumpy roads. So the flying car is the best
choice for me.

Bonus Activity: Blade Runner 2049
blade runner.jpg
There is a new movie out in cinemas at the moment called Blade Runner 2049.

It is a movie about what the world will be like in the future. Imagine that you able
to travel through time and that you can see what the world will look like in 2099.

On your blog write a description of what New Zealand will be like at that time (80 –
90 years from now). What kind of houses will people live in? What will they eat?
Where will they work?

The future
I think people will be living in their  dream houses and would be able to design
the layout and machines would build it.
The houses would be built in 4 days maximum and will be fully furnished with everything the person has drawn on the lay out. The person would also be able to change the furniture lay out by pushing a button on a certain piece and it would move to wherever you would like it to go, and to get from room to room all the person has to do is clap their hands a certain number of times and they would be in the room they would like to be in like the lounge. When ever the person wants a certain food all they have to do is go to the kitchen look on the iPad, and click on what they would like to eat then it would pop up on the table ready to be eaten. I think that everyone would be eating weird and crazy foods like rainbow chicken, chili flavored chocolate, fish dumplings I also think that technology would be a even bigger influence on food from the future.

Summer Learning Journey Week 4 Day 4

10/1/2018
Day 4: Contemporary Entertainment

Activity 1: Moana
moana.jpg
In late 2016, the movie Moana was released by Disney. It’s a beautiful story about a young Polynesian girl from the fictional island of Motunui, who goes on a big adventure.

Watch the trailer for Moana and then write a summary of the movie on your blog. If you’ve seen the movie, you can include your favourite part! Tell us as much as you can about the movie. What is it about? Who are the main characters in the movie? What do they do in the movie? Where do they go?

Moana is about two main characters a girl named moana that has to go on a voyage to save her island and the rest from being destroyed, due to Maui the demigod stealing the heart of te fiti so people would like him but it te fiti  into an evil lava monster that is destroying each and every island as time passes. The ocean chooses Moana to be the one to save everyone by giving her the heart that Maui dropped in the sea, so Moana sets of on her journey and eventually finds Maui who she has to force to take back the heart, because he is scared but once they restore it te fiti is back to normal and all the islands are restored in peace.

My favorite part is all the singing during the movies because it makes the movie even more fun because you get to sing along with the characters

Activity 2: Country Calendar
Did you know that the longest running television show in New Zealand history is a programme called ‘Country Calendar’? It started on 6 March 1966 and has been running ever since. The programme includes stories of everyday New Zealanders, many of whom are farmers.

Watch this short clip from Country Calendar. What do you think would be the most interesting and/or challenging things about being a farmer? Would you would like to be a farmer when you are older. Why/why not? Give us, at least, two reasons to support your answer.

I would not enjoy being a farmer
I would not enjoy being a farmer because there are a lot of responsibilities and jobs to look after the animals, also most of the jobs are very tiring and take a lot of energy to accomplish example shearing sheep while the are wiggling all around the place. .

Another reason is farms are not the best smelling places in the world and you have to dodge accidentally walking over poop while you are working which is very smelly and gross..

Farming interest and challenges
It would be interesting working with the animals everyday and learning about their needs and how to care and look after them properly. It would also be very challenging trying to get the animals to listen to me and trying to get them to do what I want them to do, because they have a mind of their own and they can’t speak English. It would also be very challenging and tiring trying to get up really early most days to milk the cows or do other jobs around the farm.

Bonus Activity: Singing a Different Tune
A number of New Zealand (NZ) singers and songwriters have recently burst onto the music scene, becoming popular both in NZ and overseas. One of these artists, Lorde, is gaining a lot of recognition for her unique style and songwriting ability. People all over the world seem to really like the lyrics (words) that she writes in her songs.

Think of your favorite song. Share the name of the song, the name of the person who wrote the song and the lyrics from the song on your blog. You must type the lyrics not cut and paste them in order to earn full points for the activity.

Midnight  you come and pick me up no headlights
Long drive could end in burning flames or paradise
It's been awhile since I have even heard from you
And I should just tell you to leave cause I
Know exactly where it leads but I
Watch it go round and round each time.
You got that James Dean daydream look in your eye
And I got that red lip classic thing that you like
And when we go crashing down we come back every time
Cause we never go out of style we never go out of style
You've got that long hair slicked back white t-shirt
And I got that good girl faith and a tight little skirt
And when we go crashing down we come back every time
Cause we never go out of style we never go out of style
So it goes he can't keep his wild eyes on the road
Takes me home lights are off he's taking off his coat Hm yeah
I say I've heard that you’ve been out and about with some other girl  some other girl
He says "What you've heard is true but I
Can't stop thinking about you" and I
I said I've been there too a few times
'Cause you got that James Dean daydream look in your eye
And I got that red lip classic thing that you like
And when we go crashing down we come back every time
'Cause we never go out of style we never go out of style

And I got that good girl faith and a tight little skirt A tight little skirt
And when we go crashing down we come back every time
Cause we never go We never go out of style we never go out of style
Take me home
Just take me home

Summer Learning Journey Week 4 Day 3

Day 3: Social Systems

Activity 1: Mixed-Member Proportional (MMP)
In 1996, New Zealand adopted the MMP voting system. In September of 2017
we had a national election. Everyone in New Zealand, over the age of 18,
was invited to vote for who they wanted to form the next government in New Zealand.
The race was really close and in the end, three different political parties (Labour,
New Zealand First and the Green Party), came together to form the new government.
It is called a ‘coalition government’ because it includes different people from different
political parties.

Imagine that you had to form a coalition government with two other people.
Who would you choose to partner with?

My Coalition
I would choose to partner with my mum because she is kind but when she
needs to she can be very stubborn and she is not afraid to speak up when she doesn't
like something. I would also choose my sister Nicole because she is very smart and funny,
she also makes decisions that always turn out good.

Activity 2: Migration
Over the past few decades, there has been a huge rise in the number of people coming
to New Zealand to live and/or travel. I was one of those people! In fact, I moved with my
family to New Zealand in 2010 and I am so glad that I did. It’s a pretty amazing place to call
home! At the moment I live about 10 minutes from three stunning beaches and a beautiful
national park.

Speaking of home, where do you live? On your blog, please post a picture of your
hometown and provide a list of three things that tourists, like us, could do if we came to visit
. What do you like most about your hometown? (Remember the guidelines for being
Cyber smart, and never post your address online).

My hometown Auckland

Museum - First I would take you to the museum so you could have the opportunity
to learn about our country in a fun and interactive way, you can even take a visit at night!
When stories come to life that are packed with so much fun for everyone.

Zoo - Next I would take you to the Auckland Zoo so you can see all of our national
animals face to face including our icon the kiwi, tura tura, kekeno, and many more of our
amazing creatures to explore.

Sky Tower Langham - Lastly I would take you to the langham restaurant for a very
delicious fancy buffet dinner to relax and end off a long day.

What I enjoy most about my township.
I really enjoy the people because they are very friendly kind and chill.
They are very chill and are very easy to talk to and make friends,
we also are ready to jump up and help at any given second for anyone and everyone.

Bonus Activity: Modern Learning Environments
Over the past few years, a number of schools have changed the way that
they teach. Instead of one teacher working in one classroom with one group of students,
some schools have built huge classrooms where many teachers work together to teach a
big group of students. This is called a ‘Modern Learning Environment’ (MLE).
IMG_0725.JPG

Some people prefer Modern Learning Environments while others aren’t so sure
. Take a look at the pictures above. The one on the left is a photograph of a traditional
classroom, and the picture on the right is of a Modern Learning Environment.

Imagine that you are a teacher, and design your own classroom.
What would it look like? What furniture would you have?
I would love to have some beanbags for reading on.

Draw a floorplan of your classroom (either in Google Draw or on paper)
and upload it to your blog. Describe what is special about your classroom
and why you designed it this way.

I’ve drawn a classroom with pink carpet and bright coloured tables.
I also included a kitchen so that we can do cooking every day and a HUGE
bookshelf because I love to read! What would you like to see in your classroom?

I put the tables in the position there in so it makes it easy for them to see the
front of the classroom without moving around during lessons and making a ruckus.
As you can see the teacher's desk is at the back so she can watch
them when they are independently working. There is also a comfy freetime corner
for students to go to when  they have completed all there work properly, to go hangout
and do certain things like go on youtube on there computers or do some free drawing.

Day 2: A Decade of Sport

Activity 1: Chasing Great
Over the past 17 years New Zealand has experienced a number of sporting highlights, perhaps none larger than the back-to-back Rugby World Cup victories in 2011 and 2015. In both competitions our national rugby team, the All Blacks, was captained by a man named Richie McCaw. He is arguably one of the best rugby players of all time. A movie called Chasing Great was recently created to document his incredible rugby career.

Please watch the trailer for Chasing Great and read about Richie McCaw online. On your blog tell us three things that you learned about Richie that you did not know beforehand. What else would you like to know about Richie?

Activity 2: Sporting Heroes
When Richie Mccaw first started playing rugby he was not the best but he had passion to become the best he could.

He was also the first ever person in the world to reach 100 tests in the year 2011.

The first time he ever knew about the all blacks was in the 18 world cup.

Bonus -  Richie was first named as the All Blacks captain when he was 23 years old in 2003 during the test against Wales.

In 2015, a kiwi golfer named Lydia Ko became the youngest woman in the world to reach the #1 ranking.  She was only 17 years old. Many people from here in New Zealand and overseas really admire her and think of her as a modern-day sporting hero. Who is your sporting hero? They can be a famous athlete, or even a member of your family or community. It’s completely up to you.

On your blog tell us about your sporting hero. Who are they? Why are they a hero? Include a photo of them in your blog post.

My sporting hero is Lisa Carrington. She is an incredible rower, and last year she was awarded the prestigious  Lonsdale Cup for her amazing results in 2016! She spends hours training, and I think her commitment to her sport is inspiring.

Valerie Adams

My sporting hero is Valerie Adams because she is the best shot putter in the country and has won an Olympic gold medal and more, she is also very humble and doesn't let all the fame and wins get to her head. She is devoted and puts all she has into her sport, she even kept training when she was pregnant with her baby girl.

Bonus Activity: Shake it Off
In recent years, many New Zealanders have embraced a new form of exercise called Zumba©. It was developed by a man named Alberto Perez who lives in the country of Columbia. He created Zumba by bringing together many different dance styles including: cumbia, mambo, hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, tango, merengue and mambo

Choose one of the dance styles mentioned above and click on the name to read more about it. Once you are done, post three interesting facts about the dance style on your blog. In which country did it originate? Who originally created it?

Tango
Sorry there is no information about who specifically invented it.

Tango is dance that was originated in the 1880s from the Río de la  between 2 people, it soon spread to, Argentina, Uruguay, and then the rest of the world.

There are many different styles of the tango including Tango vals, Tango liso, Tango orillero and a lot more.

The first tango was originally named tango criollo and
is a dance made from African, Native american, and european culture.
