Summer Learning Journey Day 16 WK.4

Week 4: Sights and Sounds
Your big overseas adventure is about to come to an end☹. Before you head back to New Zealand you want to spend the last few days seeing the most famous and important sights in the country. You may also want to join in some of the festivities.
Day 16 – National Celebrations
Today is a very special day in the country! It’s a major national holiday and everyone is celebrating! Scroll down to learn more about the national holiday in your country.
Canada – The national day in Canada is called ‘Canada Day.’ It is celebrated on 1 July every year. People in Canada like to celebrate the holiday by getting together with friends, having a meal and setting off fireworks. People usually eat food from the barbecue on Canada Day. Some of the most popular foods are hot dogs, hamburgers, poutine (fries with gravy and cheese), and nachos.  C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Canada Day photo.jpg

Activity 1
Imagine that you are visiting on the national holiday of your chosen country. On your blog tell us what you would eat, see and do on that day.
What I would eat is poutine, hot dogs, and nachos, and what I would do is watch the fireworks relax, and eat more food.
Activity 2
Create a brand new public holiday for the country.  Use your creativity to come up with a name for the holiday and a short description of how people in the country celebrate the holiday. Do they all get the day off? Do they eat special foods or go to special events to mark the day?
My holiday would be called relaxing day on this day everybody would get the day off and they would eat whatever they wanted for free and they would be able to go to the spa also all the kids get to go to rainbows end, go cart racing, and wherever else they would like to go for free. Everyone would also be able to stay in a 5 star hotel room for free only for one night and they get room service.
Bonus Activity
In New Zealand our national holiday is on 6 February. It is called Waitangi Day. What do you do to celebrate Waitangi Day? Do you go somewhere special? On your blog tell us what you do on that day.
On Waitangi day I spend the day with my family relaxing at home and have fun with my famliy and we also eat delicous food and treats.
Bonus Blog = 4 points

  1. Hey Katelyn,
That would be so much fun having to go to Rainbows end for free and going to anyplace for free.

Keep the great blogging up and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

  2. Oh my, Katelyn, you certainly have lots of ideas about what would be fun on a national holiday! Sharing treats and time at special places for free would certainly be cool! I wonder how that would be paid for? Would the government have to collect a special fund from everyone each year in order to save the money to pay for all the treats and free visits to activity centres? It's an idea. It would certainly lift everyone's spirits to be able to have a national 'fun' day!!
I'm glad that you enjoy Waitangi day with your family. Aren't you lucky!!

    Good blogging!

    1. Hey Leslie,

Thank you for taking time out of your day to read and comment on my blog I really appreciate it. Yes the government would collect a special amount of fund from everyone each year.

  3. Hi Katelyn!

I love your answer for your public holiday! It sounds like my favourite kind of holiday! I think it should be call "free for kids day" by the sounds of it haha!

I wonder what the adults get to do.

    Keep up the great work!

    1. Hey Mark,

I'm glade you liked my holiday I was trying to make it as fun and exciting as I could and the adults would be able to go off to a special resort where there are spa pools and lots of awesome things to keep the adults entertained.

      Katelyn :)

    2. Hi Katelyn,

That sounds better! I like this idea! I was wondering what I would do when all my family and students were at Rainbows End and doing exciting things!

      I hope you're having a great holiday!
