What being a Niuean means to me.

My writing is about special celebrations and what it means to me to be a Nuiean.

Being a Niuean means to me is family, the language and special celebrations. One of our celebrations is a hair cutting a hair cutting is when a boy grows his hair from a baby until their parents think that it is an appropriate age  to cut his hair. Cutting your hair is a sign of you going into manhood. Most of my cousins and my brother had their hair cuttings when they turned 5 years old. Both my parents are full Niueans and they can speak the language but I don’t know how to because my parents and grandparents only speak niuean if they don’t want us to know what they are talking about.  I am proud of being Niuean because it is who I am and it's where I come from.

This is what it means to be Niuean
